01 PHILOSOPHY

A quiet space
for big ideas.

Write code, make music, explore something new. AmeOS is envisioned as a personal workspace: clear, considered and shaped around your habits.

余

Room for what matters

Clean surfaces, a clear hierarchy and room to breathe. An interface that helps you focus.

⌘

Made for your habits

AmeOS is about choice, from the look of your desktop to the way you interact with the system.

雨

Character in the details

Muted colours, soft light and Japanese restraint. A distinctive atmosphere, thoughtfully composed.

02 / DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT

02 / NEXT

Build the system

FreeBSD is the foundation. Next come an AmeDE prototype and integration of the system components.

03 / LOOKING AHEAD

Open it to others

Test builds, documentation and improvements to everyday use based on feedback.

05 / A LITTLE MORE

Good questions.

Can I install AmeOS yet?

There is no installable build published yet. The project is currently developing the system and AmeDE concepts. The desktop above is an interactive design concept.

What is AmeOS based on?

AmeOS will be based on FreeBSD. Our own desktop environment, AmeDE, is being designed around this foundation.

What is AmeDE?

AmeDE is the desktop environment envisioned for AmeOS, with a top panel, dock, quick terminal access, widgets and its own themes.

What does the name mean?

The Japanese word 雨(あめ)means “rain”. It captures the project's mood: calm, soft light and space for your thoughts.

Your pace. Your AmeOS.

A small project with a big eye for detail.
